& How to Fix It!
Ok, now that I’ve got your attention - LISTEN UP!
Reason 1 - Lack of Niche / Unidentified Niche: If you feel like you're struggling to gain new followers, first ask yourself: Who exactly am I targeting?! Once you've narrowed down your ideal follower, start doing some research on the type of content that performs well with them. Are they super into informational reels? Start posting 3 a week! Or perhaps they're more into static shots of work examples - great, throw them up on your page every day!
✰ Tip: Be careful when determining what your niche is, as being TOO SPECIFIC can also cause harm!
Reason 2 - Lack of Location: Are you geotagging your location in every post? If not, start doing it! You'd be surprised how many people search for new businesses, outfits, brunch spots, etc. using location search. By adding a geotag to your posts, you're able to increase your reach and get new eyes on your profile.
✰ Tip: Make sure "Precise Location" is turned off on your settings before you start adding your location to Instagram posts.
Reason - Lack of/Incorrect Hashtag Use: Spoiler Alert - you can't throw hashtags around and expect results. You have to do some research. Luckily, Instagram makes this really easy to do! Just simply search a hashtag and you will be able to see how many accounts follow it and how many times it's been used.
✰ Tip: Incorporate a mixture of small and large hashtags. For instance, to 10 hashtags with >1k uses, 10 hashtags with 5-20k uses and 10 hashtags with 20k+ uses.
Reason 4 - Lack of Consistency: You cannot be picky when it comes to showing up on your socials. Sorry, but you can't post 7x one week and then go AWOL the following week. Establish a consistent posting schedule that aligns with your available time and resources and stick with it. Let your followers know when they can expect new content from you!
✰ Tip: If you know you only have the time and resources to share 3 posts a week, then do just that! "Consistent" doesn't mean "every day" and is different for everyone.
Reason 5 - Lack of Engagement: No one likes a ghost poster! An easy way to get more eyes on your profile? By commenting on posts! Leave a comment that is insightful or funny and will stand out to the other accounts that may be reading.
✰ Tip: Spend 10-15 minutes during your lunch break commenting on posts that potential clients/customers and local businesses are sharing.
